The USM Game Studies Group is a student organization consisting of students, faculty, and alumni interested in the critical and creative affordances of video games. The organization is open to gamers and non-gamers alike, novice and expert players, or anyone with an interest in thinking about games, participating in cool events, and playing collectively and deliberately. It's a friendly and diverse community in which to talk about games, write about games, share experiences, and learn more about different play experiences.
For more information about the group, including highlights of previous events, visit the group’s informational website. The Game Studies Group also publishes an online student journal, Quest Log, which showcases creative and critical work by students about and inspired by video games and gaming culture. If you’re interested in submitting work—criticism, game reviews, creative pieces, memoirs, podcasts, gaming videos, artwork, etc.—check out the Quest Log website for details. If you want to join the editorial team, email the group’s faculty advisor, Dr. Craig Carey (craig.carey@usm.edu).
